Since joining Northwest Associated Arts in 2014, Dr. Ryan Ellis continues to conduct and inspire singers and audiences alike as Artistic Director of ChoralSounds Northwest.

Ryan has been an active conductor, organist, and vocal coach for over 20 years in Louisiana, Massachusetts, Bermuda, and Washington State. He is Director of Choral Music at Seattle Pacific University where he directs the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and lectures classes. He is also Director of Music Ministries at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Bellevue.

Ryan maintains an active schedule as clinician, adjudicator, guest conductor, and collaborative artist with local orchestras by preparing choirs to perform with Seattle Symphony and Northwest Symphony Orchestra. He has recently presented at National Association for Music Education’s Northwest State and Regional conferences and has been published on an innovative methodology for utilizing linguistic principles in choral expressivity.

Prior to moving to Seattle, Ryan was Director of the Bermuda Chamber Choir and co-founder of the Bermuda Festival Orchestra. He led an annual concert series that was often attended by royal dignitaries of the small island and enjoyed by a large audience. Two concerts were featured in a national television broadcast. While serving as Director of Music at the Anglican Cathedral, Ryan had the opportunity to perform for visiting Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during the country’s 400th anniversary year.

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Music in both composition and organ performance, a Master of Music in choral conducting, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in choral conducting from the University of Washington. He is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and American Guild of Organists.
