Meet the Conductors

For the 2007 Holiday Concert, Christmas is for Children,
auditioning conductor Tim Root:
Tim
has lived all over the country, and has studied music everywhere
he has gone. Tim studied with Abraham Kaplan at the University
of Washington for his doctorate in choral directing. Tim has
served as music director for churches in Illinois, Texas, and
Washington. Since coming to Western Washington, he has been an
accompanist for Seattle Girls' Choir and a director with Tahoma
Choirs. In addition, Tim has been a music director for the
Hi-Liners, a youth theater group in Burien, and served for six
years as the music director at John Knox Presbyterian Church in
Normandy Park. Currently, Tim teaches elementary music at
Terminal Park Elementary School in the Auburn School District,
and is the music director at Oberlin Congregational Church in
Steilacoom.
For the May 2008 Concert, As the Television Turns,
auditioning conductor James Hing:
With
accomplishments spanning more than 20 years in piano, organ and
voice, James Hing's theatre credits include Oliver Twist (Mr.
Brownlow), Music Man (Oliver Hix), Sound of Music (Friedrich von
Trapp), Showboat (Captain Andy), and Harvey (Dr. Lyman
Sanderson). Hing’s musical accomplishments include performing
Miss Behavin’ alongside Tony Award-winner Nell Carter at the
20th Anniversary celebration of the Turtle Creek Chorale (TCC).
His leadership in music spans a number of church music
ministries, community chorus’ & civic groups in New York, the
Midwest, and most recently at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in
Renton, Washington where he is Director of Music Ministries.
Hing is a former member of Seattle Men’s Chorus, and is a
current member of The American Choral Directors Association,
GALA Choruses and the American Guild of Organists.
