Wrapping
up our 2009-2010 season will be a concert centering around
spring themes. Included in the mix will be several
selections on texts by Shakespeare.
Composers throughout the years have found the literary
genius of Shakespeare to be a favorite stimulus in choral
writing. Particularly noteworthy is a set of songs composed
between 1989 and 2004 by Matthew Harris, musical settings of
the lyrics to songs in Shakespeare’s plays.
Also featured will be Seven Songs for women’s
chorus by Frederic Chopin and music by Robert Schumann for
men’s chorus; both composers were born 200 years ago in
1810. Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei and Sure On
This Shining Night round out the program in celebration
of his 100th birthday.
